How to roast a roast chicken?

Roasting a whole chicken in the oven is a classic American dish. It can be seasoned with herbs, spices, and aromatics and cooked until the skin is crispy and the meat is tender and juicy.

If that is what you are looking for, here is how to do it:

Ingredients:

  • 1 whole chicken (approximately 4-5 pounds)
  • 4 tablespoons butter, softened
  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh thyme leaves
  • 1 tablespoon fresh rosemary leaves
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley leaves
  • 1 lemon, cut into quarters
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. Rinse the chicken inside and out, then pat it dry with paper towels.
  3. In a small bowl, combine the softened butter, minced garlic, thyme, rosemary, parsley, salt, and black pepper. Mix well to create a herb butter mixture.
  4. Gently loosen the skin of the chicken by sliding your fingers underneath the skin, being careful not to tear it. Take half of the herb butter mixture and spread it evenly under the skin, covering as much of the chicken as possible.
  5. Rub the remaining herb butter mixture all over the outside of the chicken, making sure to coat it evenly.
  6. Place the lemon quarters inside the cavity of the chicken.
  7. Tie the chicken’s legs together using kitchen twine, if desired, to help the chicken maintain its shape during roasting.
  8. Place the chicken in a roasting pan or a baking dish with a wire rack.
  9. Roast the chicken in the preheated oven for about 1 hour and 15 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C) when measured with a meat thermometer inserted into the thickest part of the thigh without touching the bone.
  10. Once cooked, remove the chicken from the oven and tent it loosely with aluminum foil. Allow it to rest for about 10-15 minutes. This resting period helps the juices redistribute and makes the chicken juicier.
  11. Carve the chicken and serve it with your favorite side dishes, such as roasted vegetables, mashed potatoes, or a fresh salad.

This roast chicken recipe results in a juicy and flavorful bird with a crispy and golden skin. The combination of the herb butter and the lemon adds aromatic flavors to the chicken.
