Ok, but how to make a Pesto to be besto?

Making homemade pesto is incredibly easy, and it’s a versatile sauce that can be used in various dishes. Here’s a simple and delicious recipe for classic basil pesto.

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups fresh basil leaves, packed
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/3 cup pine nuts or walnuts (you can also use almonds or pecans)
  • 3 garlic cloves
  • 1/2 cup extra-virgin olive oil
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

Instructions:

  1. Toast the Nuts (Optional):
    • If you prefer a richer flavor, you can toast the pine nuts or walnuts in a dry pan over medium heat for a few minutes until they turn slightly golden. Let them cool before using.
  2. Blend the Ingredients:
    • In a food processor or blender, combine the fresh basil leaves, grated Parmesan cheese, toasted nuts, and garlic cloves.
    • Start blending the ingredients on low speed, and gradually add the olive oil in a steady stream while the machine is running. Scrape down the sides of the bowl as needed.
    • Continue blending until the mixture forms a smooth and creamy consistency.
  3. Season and Store:
    • Season the pesto with salt and black pepper to taste. You can also add a squeeze of lemon juice for extra brightness if desired.
    • Transfer the pesto to a clean jar or airtight container. If you’re not using it immediately, cover the surface of the pesto with a thin layer of olive oil to help preserve its vibrant green color.
