Ok, let’s freak out! Cinnamon Sugar Baked Donuts!

The modern donut, as we know it today, evolved over time through various cultures and culinary traditions, but most probably started somewhere in Europe, maybe Greek, or Romans. Let’s thank them!

We decided to make a glaze-less recipe this time, but we will dive into glazed ones soon. So, here is what you need:

Ingredients:

For the Donuts:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

For the Cinnamon Sugar Coating:

  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the Oven:
    • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a donut pan with non-stick cooking spray.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients:
    • In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, baking soda, ground cinnamon, and salt.
  3. Combine Wet Ingredients:
    • In a separate bowl, whisk together the buttermilk, egg, melted butter, and vanilla extract until well combined.
  4. Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients:
    • Pour the wet ingredients into the bowl with the dry ingredients. Stir gently until just combined. Be careful not to overmix; a few lumps are okay.
  5. Fill the Donut Pan:
    • Spoon or pipe the batter into the prepared donut pan, filling each cavity about two-thirds full.
  6. Bake the Donuts:
    • Bake in the preheated oven for about 10-12 minutes, or until the donuts spring back when touched and a toothpick inserted into a donut comes out clean.
  7. Coat with Cinnamon Sugar:
    • While the donuts are baking, prepare the cinnamon sugar coating. In a shallow bowl, mix together the granulated sugar and ground cinnamon.
    • Once the donuts are out of the oven and cool enough to handle, brush each donut with melted butter, then roll it in the cinnamon sugar mixture to coat evenly.
  8. Serve and Enjoy:
    • Serve the cinnamon sugar baked donuts warm or at room temperature. They are best enjoyed on the day they are made, you don’t need us to remind you that.
