The Cubano Sandwich from the movie: Chef! – This is just legendary

If you have not seen the movie, go and do so, because you will value this recipe more. Truly, I mean it!

This is what you need:
  • Cuban bread or French bread (preferably crusty)
  • Roast pork (sliced or shredded)
  • Ham (sliced)
  • Swiss cheese (sliced)
  • Dill pickles (sliced lengthwise)
  • Yellow mustard
  • Mayonnaise
  • Butter (for grilling)

But this is how you make the roast pork:

  • Pork shoulder or pork loin
  • Garlic cloves (minced)
  • Orange juice
  • Lime juice
  • Olive oil
  • Dried oregano
  • Cumin
  • Salt
  • Black pepper

But here is how to do it:

The pork instructions!

  1. Preheat your oven to 325°F (165°C).
  2. In a bowl, combine the minced garlic, orange juice, lime juice, olive oil, dried oregano, cumin, salt, and black pepper. Mix well to create a marinade.
  3. Place the pork shoulder or pork loin in a baking dish or roasting pan.
  4. Pour the marinade over the pork, making sure to coat it evenly.
  5. Cover the dish or pan with foil and let the pork marinate in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours or overnight for best flavor.
  6. Once marinated, remove the pork from the refrigerator and let it come to room temperature.
  7. Place the pork, along with the marinade, in the preheated oven.
  8. Roast the pork for approximately 25-30 minutes per pound, or until the internal temperature reaches 145°F (63°C) for medium doneness.
  9. Remove the pork from the oven and let it rest for about 10 minutes before slicing.
  10. Slice the roast pork into thin slices for the Cubano sandwich.

Here’s how you can prepare a Cubano sandwich:

  1. Preheat a sandwich press or a large skillet over medium heat.
  2. Slice the Cuban bread or French bread lengthwise.
  3. Spread a thin layer of yellow mustard on one side of the bread, and mayonnaise on the other side.
  4. Layer the roast pork, ham, Swiss cheese, and dill pickles on the bread.
  5. Close the sandwich and spread butter on the outer sides of the bread.
  6. Place the sandwich in the preheated sandwich press or skillet.
  7. If using a skillet, press the sandwich down with a heavy pan or a spatula to compress it.
  8. Cook the sandwich for a few minutes on each side, until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted.
  9. Remove the sandwich from the press or skillet, and let it cool slightly.
  10. Cut the Cubano sandwich into halves or quarters, and serve it warm.
