The simple Vanilla Cake

For a Vanilla Cake, or any cake for that matter, this basic recipe serves as a great foundation, and you can customize it with your favorite frosting or additional flavors. If you follow the steps, you will have it ready in under 1h. Here’s how to do it:

Ingredients:

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 1/4 cups whole milk

Instructions:

  1. Preheat Oven:
    • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. Combine Dry Ingredients:
    • In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  3. Cream Butter and Sugar:
    • In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy. This can be done with a hand mixer or a stand mixer.
  4. Add Eggs:
    • Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  5. Add Vanilla Extract:
    • Stir in the vanilla extract.
  6. Alternate Flour and Milk:
    • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the milk. Begin and end with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.
  7. Divide Batter:
    • Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans.
  8. Smooth Batter:
    • Smooth the tops with a spatula to ensure even baking.
  9. Bake:
    • Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  10. Cool:
    • Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for about 10 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
  11. Frost (Optional):
    • Once the cakes are completely cool, you can frost them with your favorite frosting.
